It's been along time since we posted, not to worry, we still like to be Grapecrazy!! Went to Terroir Wine Pub last nite, had a great glass of Cambria, and picked up our monthly wine club selections. If you do not know about their wine club, you need to go in and check it out. It is a great deal, includes a really good monthly wine selection, discounts on all wines purchased, and lots more!! Napa Sonoma Wine Trip 3/17/08

It has been some time since we had been to the Napa Sonoma wine country. Went with a another couple of Grapecrazy's, and it was soooo much fun. Beautiful weather, so much good wine and food, great company and St. Patrick's weekend to boot!

Great wines and staff at St. Supery, Peju, Clos Pegase, Castello di Amorosa, Sterling, Twomey and Cakebread. Very cool hotel on the plaza in downtown Sonoma, the El Dorado Hotel.

Seghesio at AZ Wine

A super Friday tasting at AZ Wine on 3/7/08. Seghesio Family Vinyards (www.seghesio.com) is well known for awesome Zin's and did not disappoint last night. A great turnout, lot's of tasty samples, a rowdy AZ Wine staff, and Edd Lopez, National Sales Director, leading the tasting.

AZ Wine tastings

Went to AZ Wine Firday 12/28 for a great bubbly tasting. Several sparkling wines and champagne. These tastings are a great deal, $10.00 per person but that can be applied to a purchase from the tasting. CHECK IT OUT!

Terroir Wine Pub New Years Bash

Another fantastic New Years Eve party at Terroir! Brian and the crew were most excellent hosts, Big Nick and the Gila Monsters were jamming, dance floor was packed and of course the wine was flowing!!

We used a great new service to get us home, Zingo. They drive to your location on these cool little motor scooters, pack that in your trunk, and drive you and your car home. Very Cool!

Su Vino Winery

Wow, another great wine pub pops up right in our back yard! Su Vino Winery,
http://www.suvinowineryaz.com/. 7035 E. Main Street. East side, street level at the new Main Street condos. Su Vino, which means "Your Wine" in Italian and Spanish, was founded in Grapevine, Texas (got to love that name!) and Cory Whalin is the Scottsdale Proprietor.

The "Grapecrazies" stopped in on a recent Friday to check it out. The first impression is great, lots of room, nice colors, very unique layout. The staff is fantastic. No "wine snobs" here! We meet Cory, Jason (our server) and Cory's future mother-in-law Maureen. Very nice people and very knowledgeable about their wine.

What really makes Su Vino SO cool is they only sell their wine, made on premises. That's right, an actually winery in Old Town Scottsdale. Everything we tried was very good. And, the real kicker is you can have batches of wine made for you. Use their existing recipes, or you can custom blend. Once the batch is ready, you can come in and do your own bottling. They will even make custom label. What a great party idea, have a batch made, bring in some friends and have an evening of wine bottling!!

So, check out Su Vino right away!

Balmy summer night at Uncorked with our friends Janet, Mark, Maggie, Pam and crew.

This place is really cool. In the Promenade mall, Scottsdale Rd. and Frank Lloyd Wright. Very pretty inside, lots of comfy seating, intimate, beautiful colors. Awesome patio, right next to Promenade Amphitheater and as it happened Alice Tatum was performing! Very helpful staff, great wine selection, and good food. Tip, next time you happen to hit Nordstrom’s Rack, do it late afternoon, and stop in at Uncorked and unwind!

3/15/07. Spain vs. Italy at Epicurean Wine in Scottsdale. Very cool place, great atmosphere, helpful staff, yummy munchies, and lots of good wine. Our favorites from the night, from Spain a 2004 Alius Tinto (Somontano), equal blend of Tempranillo, Merlot and Cab. Great nose, nice toasty taste…. From Italy, the 2004 La Parrina Rosso (Tuscany), 100% Sangiovese, lavender and sweet cherry scents, soft and silky, YUM!

Another fun event at AZ Wine

Another fun tasting event at AZ Wine. BBQ, and wines from John Caldwell. Excellent Napa Reds from one of the best in the business. Great story on Re-Entry Red. There was a storage facility for wineries, Mare Island, that “mysteriously” (ask the locals!) caught on fire, destroyed a ton of wine, but by some miracle one of John’s vintages was saved, and “re-entered”. Talk about the grapes suffering. But, this is an excellent red blend.

Terroir Wine Pub

Went to a favorite spot last night, Terroir Wine Pub. Read about them two years ago, what drew us was a quote from Brian Mahoney, (in the middle above and below, with our favorite servers Gena and Rachael, the proprietor saying he was offended by wine establishments that charged $15 for a 4 oz pours, and at Terroir, they would do a 10 oz pour!! Well, we went in on a Friday to check that out, and they were true to their word. What’s so cool is everyone at Terroir believes that wine should be accessible, and they have fun making you feel comfortable.

So, on our first visit, we did have a $1200 tab!! (must have been the 10 oz pour…) We learned about their annual Paso Robles Wine tour, and signed up on the spot. Around $600 a person, and Wow, was that a blast!!! Around 40 “Grapecrazys” packed on the bus, went to some awesome winery’s, great dinner parties, and met many real fun people, just a great way to spend a four day weekend.

Terroir also has a cool wine club. Pay a monthly fee; get two free bottles of wine, and discounts on all wine purchases.

Concrete Interior Designs and 7 Deadly Zins

So, what does an open house party at Scottsdale's Concrete Interior Designs ( www.concreteinteriordesigns.com) have to do with wine? 7 Deadly Zins!!

We went to CID's open house last night and had a blast. In addition to their fantastic showroom displays of sinks, counters, walls, you name it, there were also several great artists on display with Art Source (www.artsourceco.com). And for us, the real fun was of course food and WINE!

Been awhile since we had this, but they were pouring 7 Deadly Zins, from the Michael David vineyards. Great wine, usually around $12 to $14 a bottle. Soft, supple pepper and licorice-clove notes merge into a sinful marriage of deep, brambly blackberries and lustful cherries. The finish is clean on the palate with hints of rich vanilla, cocoa, and mild tannins.

Ah, Spring Training in sunny AZ!

We spent a beautiful, sunny afternoon this weekend at the San Francisco Giants Cactus League Scottsdale Stadium. Quick tip for the folks at Scottsdale Stadium, START SELLING WINE!!. At least they had Anchor Steam beer.....

Really, the only thing missing was wine. It is hard to beat spending the afternoon on the lawn seat section, eating ballpark dogs, sipping Anchor Steam, people watching, and oh ya, and occasionally watching the players play baseball!!

And since this was the SF Giants, we decided it is almost time to get up to the Sonoma/Napa wine country, especially up in Russian River!! Check out the link to wineroad, http://www.wineroad.com/ great information on the area!

Welcome to the first posting on our Grapecrazy blog! First bit of news we wanted to share is a great place to enjoy wine tastings in Scottsdale. AZ Wine, on Scottsdale Road just south of Thomas, has Wednesday and Friday night tastings, and a couple of weeks ago they had Tobin James from the Paso Robles California region, and it was a blast! We were up there with our friends Janet and Mark (no last names, ever, to protect the innocent), and about 75 new friends!

If any of you have ever met Toby, you'll get his nickname, "Spank Me" Toby.... Anyway, his wines are fantastic, and since Paso is known for great red wines, that was what we went after, and we were not disappointed. And, since the tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle of what was poured, we couldn't resist that bargain, so it was a great time to load up!!
